~ A Lovely Workshop – Arrival~

How to begin? For several months, I anticipated, waited, stressed over this trip. Flying worries, natural disasters, my family getting by without me where all on my mind. What to expect? How will I be received? What will I learn?  I arrived in Paris on May 16th then headed to Poitiers on a train for a final car ride to this beautiful place…

Already my heart jumped! I was in a haze from lack of sleep and an 8 hour time difference but I knew this was going to be life-changing! Elizabeth, Adam and Kim and several of the attendees….sitting outside ready to greet us. At ease from the beginning. I guess my first workshop post is mostly to set the scene. Elizabeth Messina and her amazing friends put on an  experience not to be forgotten. I’d like to introduce some of these talented people and also show you some of the property.

Joan of Arc is rumored to have stayed here. A beautiful statue of her faces the Chateau.

Elizabeth Messina is one of the top Wedding Photographers in the world. Her style is uniquely hers. A film shooter only, she captures peoples essence without compromise and shows us a little piece of herself in every photograph. Besides being talented, she’s also warm, funny, driven. Watching her work was a lesson and a treat. She’s also extremely approachable and affectionate.

Adam and Kim Bamberg are the husband and wife team responsible for finding this outrageous venue. They were married here and have photographed here. Talented and kind, they made everyone feel at home. Kim is also part of the gorgeous Wedding Blog ~ Junebug Weddings. She has great taste and is the most enthusiastic person I have ever met. Her heart is immense.

Kirsten * of Bliss Productions : I want to call her zen master cinema wonder woman. She was so quiet and stealthy, capturing every moment of every day. Her work is beyond beautiful. I loved watching her in action. Here is a piece she did about the Chateau.

Some interior shots of the sitting rooms and dinning areas. Gorgeous light…

Yvette Roman: Yet another talented and well established photographer. Her style roots are pure Rock n Roll. She was always there for us and answered every question. Fun to listen to as I hung on every word. Maybe it was her vibrant nature.

Way more to come….including stunning models, hair and makeup, editors, event design, and all of the exceptional attendees. I think this was by far the longest post in Silvana Di Franco Photography history.

~Adjustment~

I have been back from France and Elizabeth Messina’s “A Lovely Workshop” for four days and the adjustment has been surprisingly pleasant. The joy of seeing my family and the excitement of viewing all the amazing photos from all the attendees made it an experience filled with inspiration. I now sit with an overwhelming amount of images (not a bad thing at all) and an overwhelming amount of anticipation. I cannot wait to share ~ just having a hard time figuring out how. In the meantime….

~Postcards from France~

Well…today I’m on my way to France to attend Elizabeth Messina’s A Lovely Workshop! I’m still pinching myself! There were some doubts (money issues, missing my family fiercely, volcanoes) but here I am, packing, checking lists, and well….READY! I’m so blessed to have the support of my dear family and friends.  They have always been there to encourage me to move forward, to look ahead, to learn. They even hold my hand when I step way out of my comfort zone. This workshop will be a life changing experience for me….I can’t wait to meet all the other attendees and to dive in! Here I go. Eyes open.

These are “postcards” I took when I was last in Paris. I hope to come back with new ones. Postage not included. Cheers.

A Day in West Marin

I will find any excuse to head west! I had the chance to photograph this wonderful family in one of the most gorgeous parts of Marin. The Betz where enjoying their weekend out on Stinson Beach and I was lucky enough to be able to join in for enough time to capture this sweet family session. And as luck would have it, beautiful grand-mom was there too!

Red doors seem to love purple and blue….

Trails adorned with high grass…

Ends on the beach with tutus, wings and kisses!

~Mother’s Day~

I wanted to share with you a little bit about my Mom. She is not only very loving, generous, super funny, totally unique, but also very sentimental. This post is for her. These photos are from different times of her life. Check out that amazing hair do! She was born in Punta Arena, Chile but attended school in Santiago and sang in a chorus at the Catholic University. The top photo is of her and I frolicking on the beach in Vina del Mar. Mom, thank you for all that you do for me. Here’s to you ~ Happy Mother’s Day!

To all Mothers. Including all women that take care of pooches, kitties, elders. Giving love is Motherly!

~c91a29~

It’s not a secret code. It is the number designated to the vibrant color of this flower. I really love the boldness that it speaks. Romantic, strong, desirable. Here’s to you c91a29!
